Mens Underwear through the years
Historically known as the loincloth mens underwear has somewhat changed and developed over the years. Mens underwear has always been made to satisfy certain criteria, the first to be made of suitable long last fabrics and the second to follow the body’s natural shape.
Male underwear underwent huge changes in design during both world wars; in fact the first boxer/shorts style underwear with buttons was first introduced and given to the soldiers of World War 1.
As the industrial revolution took shape the production of undergarments and particularly mens underwear took shape too. What once would take up to three days to make by hand can now be made in an hour with little effort.
It wasn’t until the early 1900’s that the design of mens underwear started to change with a strong focus on hygiene and accessibility. Some designs included underwear that only covered the buttocks, closed crotch areas and a D shaped flap at the back held closed with a button. As underwear fabrics and design progressed, it soon became more about comfort than anything else.
Currently mens underwear is a massive factor in the fashion industry with top names such as Calvin Klein and 2(x)-ist topping the billboards and featuring in all the magazines. With such emphasis on underwear choice comes hand in hand. There is now more to choose from than just a loincloth, some example choices include briefs, boxers, jocks and enhancing mens underwear.
